NCDI’s mission is to build capacity for social change in communities of color and other marginalized communities in a culturally-based way. NCDI’s core strategies are technical support and training services, cross-cultural bridge building, and the development and advancement of the capacity-building field. With a visionary board and a diversely talented national network of staff and consultants, NCDI is recognized as one of the premier technical assistance providers for grassroots organizations in low-income communities of color.
In our work we recognize that the most effective solutions are community-driven and culturally-based. NCDI’s approach to promoting/creating/fostering change is inherently collaborative. We look to the communities we work with to provide the context and the insights to their social change strategy. Communities can develop strategies to meet their specific needs when provided with excellent information, ample resources, and strong external support. As capacity builders, we consider our work to have been successful when sustainable social change continues to happen long after we are gone.
Our primary partners are individuals, organizations, and communities of color. The services we offer are designed to meet the specific needs of the different groups with whom we collaborate. NCDI’s methods for promoting social change range from facilitating discussion between organizations and community members, helping re-structure community organizations, providing technical assistance, and training leaders from the community on how to more effectively work for measurable change. Through this work NCDI seeks to influence decision-makers, funders, academics, and professional groups serving the nonprofit and social justice sectors.
